IMAR Survey were contracted by the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI) to design and build a purpose built catamaran survey vessel and equip it with state of the art surveying instruments for operations in shallow waters around the coast of Ireland.

The keal of the “Keary” was laid in 2008 and delivered to GSI in 2008.

The 15m fully equipped and state of the art hydrographic and geophysical launch will be used to deliver survey data that will meet all required international survey specifications. The survey equipment includes a multi-beam echo sounder for imaging the seabed, GPS navigation, side-scan sonar, seabed profiler and Automatic Identification System.

The “Kearay” is named after the late Ray Keary of the Geological Survey of Ireland who for years had quietly championed the value of Ireland’s marine resource.
